Abstract
Purpose: We wish to present basic research on starting an optical store by analyzing market boundaries around the country.

Methods: We used the commercial district information system (2016.6) of Small Enterprise & Market Authority to analyze the market through population, the number of households and optical stores and rental prices. Statistical analyses were performed with descriptive statistics and correlation analysis with SPSS 18.0 (p<0.05).

Results: Total population was 1,868,395, the rental price 11,980 won, the number of optical stores 492, density 1.88 and population per establishment 3,798 in case of Jeollabuk-do Province. Total population was 2,387,812, the rental price 12,197 won, the number of optical stores 484, density 1.60 and population per establishment 5,553 in case of Gyeongsangbuk-do Province. Total population was 1,905,177, the rental price 13,369 won, the number of optical stores 2,077, density 1.26 and population per establishment 4,739 in case of Jeollanam-do Province. Total population was 2,037,780, the rental price 14,891 won, the number of optical stores 384, density 1.25 and population per establishment 5,307 in case of Chungcheongnam-do Province. Total population was 1,564,283, the rental price 14,919 won, the number of optical stores 320, density 1.05 and population per establishment 4,883 in case of Chungcheongbuk-do Province. Total population was 12,185,139, the rental price 26,074 won, the number of optical stores 2,191, density 0.97 and population per establishment 5,561 in case of Gyeonggi-do Province. Total population was 1,535,801, the rental price 15,343 won, the number of optical stores 280, density 0.96 and population per establishment 5,485 in case of Gangwon-do Province. Total population was 588,315, the rental price 12,111 won, the number of optical stores 118, density 0.85 and population per establishment 4,986 in case of Jeju Special Self-Governing Province. Total population was 3,3,319,042, the rental price 19,554 won, the number of optical stores 620, density 0.64 and population per establishment 5,353 in case of Gyeongsangnam-do Province.

Conclusions: The population per one optical store established regionally means the existence of a potential consumer group but also low clinical accessibility for patients. In case of regions where optical store density is high, it may mean a risk from severe competition. It is essential to consider priorititzing toward regions where the population per business is beyond the regional average and business density is below the national average. In addition, it will be important to consider the limits of capital by sorting the regions which can manage the expense of fixed costs represented as the market price of lease.
